2021 PSL Top 10 Highest Paid Coaches.

Coaches play an important role in football teams. They don’t only assist players in developing to their full potential but they are responsible for training them , instructing , providing encouragement and many more. Therefore it is no surprise that the best coaches in South Africa earn huge amounts of salaries. Below is a list of the Top 10 highest paid coaches in PSL, happy reading!

1. Pitso Mosimane – Salary: R700,000 – R800,000

  • Club: Al Ahly

Pitso Mosimane is one of the best coaches from South Africa. Before he began his coaching career he played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and a few other clubs mainly as a midfielder. He was recently the coach of Mamelodi Sundowns. He won the 2016 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns and the CAF Super Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns as well in 2017.

Pitso Mosimane was named African Coach of the year as well as Premier Soccer League Coach of the Year,he has the second accolade four times. Pitso received a salary between R700, 000 – R 800, 00 making him the highest paid coach in PSL. He is currently managing Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League.

2. Jan Olde Riekerink – Salary; R600,000

  • Club: Cape Town City

Jan Olde Riekerink is the manager of Cape Town City in the South African Premier Soccer League. He was born in Hengelo, Netherlands. He is a Dutch football coach and former professional player. Before he began his coaching career, he was a Midfielder and featured Sparta Rotterdam, FC Dordrecht, Telstar.

Jan Olde Riekerink has previously coached several teams including Ajax (youth coach), Gent, FC Emmen, Porto (assistant), Metalurh Donetsk (assistant), Jong Ajax (head of youth), China U19, China U16, Galatasaray, and SC Heerenveen.

3. Kaitano Tembo – Salary: R500,000

  • Club: Supersport United

Kaitano Tembo is currently the coach of Supersport United and the third highest-paid coach in the South African club. He was born in Zimbabwe. Before he began his coaching career he was a defender and played for Dynamos, Seven Stars, SuperSport United. He also played for the Zimbabwe National Football Team.

4. Stuart Baxter – Salary: R350,000- R450,000

  • Club: Odisha United

Stuart William Baxter is currently the Manager of Odisha United, in India. Before that, he was the manager of the South African National Football Team. He Played for Several European clubs in England, Sweden, Australia, Scotland, and the USA. He has managed clubs in Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Japan, and South Africa.

Stuart Baxter played for the South African National Football Team, and he has also coached South Africa.

5. Eric Tinkler – Salary: R350,000 – R400,000

  • Club: Maritzburg United

Eric Tinkler is the Manager of Maritzburg United in the South African Premier Division. Before he began his coaching career,he played for Vitória, Cagliari, Barnsley, Caldas, and Bidvest Wits. Eric Tinkler used to be a Midfielder during his playing days.

Eric has been the head coach of Maritzburg United since January 2019 and currently the fifth richest coach in PSL. Before then, he has held coaching jobs at Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City club, and Supersport United.

6. Steve Komphela – Salary: R300,000 – R400,000

  • Club: Golden Arrows Football Club

Steven Mbuyi Komphela is the Manager of the Golden Arrows Football Club of South Africa.  He played for several South African clubs, and also for the South Africa National Football Team as a Defender. He was born in Kroonstad, South Africa.

His coaching career began in 2002 with the Manning Rangers Football Club. He has managed various teams in the South African Premier Soccer League.

7. Gavin Hunt – Salary R300,000 – R400,000

  • Club: Bidvest Wits

Gavin John Hunt is currently the Manager of Bidvest Wits. He was a Player before he began his coaching career and featured many clubs including Hellenic where he was the Right-back. He was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He also featured for a long time as Right Back for the South African National Football Team.

Hunt won three consecutive Premier Soccer League titles from 2007- 2008 to 2009- 2010 when he was managing Supersport United.

8. Steve Barker – Salary: R300,000 – R350,000

  • Club: Stellenbosch FC

Steven Robert Barker is currently the manager of Stellenbosch FC in the South African Premier Division. He was born in Maseru, Lesotho. Before he became a coach Barker played club football for Wits University and SuperSport United.

He was formerly in charge of the University of Pretoria and he also coached AmaZulu.

9. Roger De Sá – Salary: R250,000

  • Club: Platinum Stars

Rogério Paulo Cesar de Sá is the Manager of Platinum Stars in the South African Premier Soccer League. Before he became a coach, he was a Goalkeeper. He was also a goalkeeper for the South Africa National Football Team.

During his playing days, he played for Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows. He has previously managed several teams including Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, and Maritzburg United.

10. Gordon Igesund

  • Club: Highlands Park

Gordon Igesund was most recently the manager of Highlands Park in the Premier Soccer League and one of the highest-paid coaches in PSL. Before he became a coach he was a striker. He played for Durban City, Durban United, Highlands Park, GAK, Admira Wacker, Durban Leeds United, Witbank Aces, as well as Durban Bush Bucks, Amazulu, D’Alberton Callies. He also played for South Africa.

As a coach he has been in charge of African Wanderers, Manning Rangers, Orlando Pirates, Santos Cape Town, Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, Maritzburg United, SuperSport United, Free State Stars, Moroka Swallows, South Africa, and Highlands Park
