Music Career

Benjamin Dube developed love for the guitar at the age of 9. He began playing the drums and bass guitar when he was 11 years old. He and his siblings were taught how to sing and harmonize by his mother. They began singing in church as the Dube Family Singers. His father was murdered when he was 14. However, the Dube Family Singers continued their father’s legacy and toured the Netherlands.

The story of their father’s murder as told them by their mother inspired the album “Vader Vergeef he then” meaning “Father Forgive Them”. In 1980, Dube founded a singing group in High School called “Share The Good News”

Benjamin Dube entered an SABC talent search and won. He was then spotted by a secular artist, Sello “Chicco” Twala who invited him to be the lead Vocalist of his pop band “Image”. He began his journey in ministry in 1986 when he recorded “HOLY SPIRIT” as Benjamin and The Youth Choir. He has since recorded many songs as a solo artist, and forged his own path in ministry.

Dube’s relationship with Chicco Twala became the start of his rise. After he released “HOLY SPIRIT” as Benjamin and The Youth Choir (produced by Chicco), the song’s success made him a household name in South Africa. In 1988 he featured Lucky Dube on the song “Ebenezer” and was invited as a supporting act for US Gospel star, James Cleveland when he toured South Africa. Later on he toured the US and shared the stage with Andre Crouche and many more other artists.

Benjamin Dube since his debut, has released several platinum and Gold selling albums.
