Career

Fikile Mbalula started out his political career as the public secretary and Vice president before becoming the president of the Youth Congress of Botshabelo in 1988.

He then gained the position of the secretary of the African National Congress Youth League, which he served from 1991. He became the provincial secretary of the African National Congress Youth League in 1994 and served for 2 years. He joined the South African Youth Congress in 1998 and was appointed as the president of the International Union of Socialist Youth.

Fikile Mbalula got his first ministerial position in May 2009. He was appointed as the Deputy Minister of police and he served for a year. In November 2010, he was appointed as the Minister of sports and recreation.

In 2017 The South African government had a cabinet reshuffle and he was appointed to serve as the Minister of Police. He is currently the Minister of Transport, a position he has held since 2019 after being appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa after the South African general elections. Fikile Mbalula is an active member of the African National Congress.
